Black Printer - HP P1102w
- Plug in the printer to the computer and go to Start and type in “Control Panel” and open the control panel, then click on “Devices and Printers”. Your control panel could look like either picture, so I included both.
- Then, right click on the printer and select “Printer properties”
- In Printer Properties, go to the “Device Settings” tab and find the EcoSMART Console.
- In there, for “Sleep after” set it to the highest it goes (should be 1 hour), and for “Auto Off after” select the highest that goes (should be Never)
- Then click “Apply” and “OK”. The settings should carry over, even if you disconnect the printer and turn the computer off. However: If you, for some reason, have to “remove the device” through the control panel and re-add it, the settings will not carry over
White Printer - HP M102w
- With the printer plugged in, either double-click the “HP LaserJet M101-M106” desktop icon, if you have it. If you don’t, then open the Control Panel, and Devices and Printers (see the black printer instructions step 1 if you don’t know how to do this), double click the “HP LaserJet M101-M106” icon in printers, and double click the “HP Printer Assistant” icon.
- Click on “HP Device Toolbox” in the “Print” tab
- Then go to the “System” tab and select “Energy Settings”
- In Energy Settings, set the “Sleep/Auto Off After Inactivity” to the highest setting (should be 1 hour), and set the “Shut Down After Inactivity” to the highest setting (should be 8 hours)
- Then click “Apply” and you can close out of everything. These settings will save, even if you unplug and shut down your machine. And even if you have to “Remove Device” in the control panel, for some reason.
